Introducing

Oatly

Cold Foam

Decorative Frame
Oatly Barista Cold Foam

We've spent a substantial time creating the perfect cold foam. It's a tasty, ready-to-foam, creamy plant-based topping, customisable with flavour and colour, suitable for any kind of beverage, like cold brew and signature drinks.

Finally, everyone can get creative and make quick, customised coffee and speciality drinks. Oatly Barista Cold Foam is a plant-based topping that tastes amazing and adds a long-lasting cloud to the top of any beverage. It is less dense than cream, so it doesn’t melt into the drink, and it can easily be customised with different flavours and colours. It works with frothers, spindle mixers, blenders with an aerating disk, and siphons, adding some creativity to anything that needs a little extra fluff. Let's make cold foam!

Blender with an aerating disc

  1. Pour 200ml of Oatly Barista Cold Foam or until blade is covered

  2. Run the recommended program for cold foam with an aerating blade. You should see a whirlpool forming, and the volume should increase by 75%, so 200 ml of liquid should become 350 ml of foam.

  3. Pour over your iced coffee, cold brew coffee or signature drink.

 Recipe variations

Before blending, customise 200 ml of Oatly Cold Foam by adding:
40–80 ml of syrup
6–8 g of matcha powder
Any additional liquids or powders desired

Spindle/
Milkshake mixer

1. Add 250ml Oatly Barista Cold Foam to the cup, making sure the agitator (or saw blade) is covered.

2. Run for 20 sec, the volume should increase by 75%.

3. Pour over your iced coffee, cold brew or preferred drink.

Recipe variations

Before foaming, customise a 50 ml serve of Oatly Cold Foam by adding:
10–20 ml of syrup
1.5–2 g of matcha powder
18 g of cold espresso
Other liquids or powder (volume may vary)

Jug may need a swirl and tap to break larger bubbles.

Hand frother

1. Add 100ml to a jug, a mason jar, or whatever.

2. Froth for about 20 sec, or until the volume increases by 100%, turning 100 ml of liquid into 200 ml of foam.

3. Pour the cloud over your iced coffee, cold brew or preferred drink.

 Recipe variations

Before foaming, customise a 50 ml serve of Oatly Cold Foam by adding:
10–20 ml of syrup
1.5–2 g of matcha powder
18 g of cold espresso
Other liquids or powder (volume may vary)

Jug may need a swirl and tap to break larger bubbles.

Siphon

1. Fill the siphon with the recommended maximum volume (500ml or 1000ml)

2. Dispense an NO2 charger into siphon, 1 charger per 500ml.

3. Shake 3 to 15 times. The more you shake, the firmer it gets.

4. Using a plain siphon tip, held just above the surface of the drink, gently release the trigger to slowly dispense the foam.

 Recipe variations

 Don't shake AGAIN!

This is one of those rare times when we're telling you not to shake our product. I know, shocking! You don't need to re-shake between uses, it will maintain it's texture for 8 hour in the siphon.

Wait, there's more?

No. If you've read this far, you basically know everything you need to know to make cold foam. But if you're still wondering what it is, we've tried to answer any question anyone might have in the following. Read on, or don't. It's totally up to you.

  • What's cold foam, and how do I use it?

It's a creamy, delicious topping suitable for just about any hot or cold brew, signature drink or iced coffee. Customisable in both flavour and colour, you whip or froth it into a cloud, immediately turning any drink into a fun artisan specialty item that looks like it was made by a professional, whether you are one or not.

  • What beverage is best for cold foam, cold brew or iced coffee?

Cold brew coffee, iced coffee, or really any iced drink pairs great with it because cool recognizes cool. Putting a tasty cloud on top of, a brew, or a drink, like for instance a dirty soda, instantly turns it into a little artisan specialty. But it works just as well on a hot cup of coffee or espresso.

  • Is cold foam cream?

It's creamy, but it's not cream. Where cream is super thick (especially if it's heavy cream), cold foam is more like a less dense, sweet cream foam, but without the cream (I only added that word for the web crawler). It is an airy, sweet cloud that floats on top of your drink, as if it has an opinion about gravity that runs counter to anything Newton ever put down on paper.

  • Is cold foam dairy-free?

It can be made from both dairy and dairy-free products. We prefer it without cow's milk, heavy cream, or the like. Just as the Original Oatly Barista Oat Drink pairs so well with coffee because of the round, neutral taste of oats, the Oatly Barista Cold Foam is 100% dairy-free, with a taste made for hot or cold coffee and signature drinks.

  • Is cold foam good with cold brew coffee?

Yes! It's amazing with cold brew coffee. The lightly sweetened taste of an oat cloud on top of the low-acid, cold brew creates a nice combination of textures and a creamy feel that's less dense than whipped cream. Some people like it with the natural sweetness of the foam, while others prefer it with a caramel, chocolate, or vanilla cold foam. All of which you can do yourself with our Oatly Barista cold foam as described further down.

  • How to make cold foam.

The Internet is full of instructions on how to make a perfectly good foam. Just type in the words, and all the latest videos and blog posts with tutorials will be all over your screen. But the best way to make it is to get our appropriately named Oatly Barista Cold Foam, an oat-based version, and use your favorite tool to whip it (or froth it) into a fluffy cloud ready to be poured over a beverage of your choice.

  • Do I need special tools to make it?

You can use almost anything you would use to make whipped cream, a Siphon, a blender with an aerating disc, a spindle mixer, an electric whisk, or a handheld frother (milk frother). If any of those tools is special to you, feel free to use it. We recommend using automated means, rather than a similar manual process, unless you want to combine your drink-making with exercise.

  • How to make your own flavoured cold foam.

We already know that cold foam is great with all sorts of caffeinated beverages, hot coffee, cold brew, iced coffee, signature drinks, dirty sodas, and whatever.

But if you're into experimentation and creativity, signature drinks are really where you can let your newly found cold foam-making skills shine. The classics like vanilla, caramel, cinnamon and pumpkin are already tried and tested but imagine what you can do if you put the French press away for a while, grab some other liquids and replace the caramel or vanilla with another syrup.

One hard thing about a foam recipe is that it can vary depending on the tool you're using, the foam and your taste. Use the following recipes as a guideline, but don't hesitate to experiment to find your own methods and the perfect mix for you. We use the Oatly Barista Cold Foam (of course) but the measures employed both for it, the syrups and natural flavours can still vary depending on how much flavour you like. If other measures work better for you, go for it!

    Easy vanilla cold foam recipe
For this recipe we froth the foam using a milk frother. If you're using another tool, you might have to adjust according to the foaming instructions above. Use a store-bought vanilla syrup or create your own vanilla simple syrup. Tastes like a lighter version of vanilla sweet cream.

    1. Add 50 ml of the Oatly Barista Cold Foam to a jug.
    2. Add 10 ml of vanilla syrup.
    3. Froth for 20 sec, or until 50 ml of liquid becomes about 100 ml of foam.
    4. Pour the vanilla cloud over your iced coffee, cold brew coffee or signature drink.

    Easy flavoured cold foam recipe
Follow the above instructions for the vanilla recipe but replace the vanilla syrup or strawberry-, pumpkin- or any other flavoured syrup you want.

  • How to colour it.

Using espresso, matcha or strongly coloured syrups will add some colour to the foam, but if you're only after the colour, just add a few drops of your favourite food colour into the liquid before whipping it into a foam.

  • Is it called oat milk cold foam or oat drink cold foam?

We call it Oatly Barista Cold Foam, but you can call it whatever you want.

  • Will my cloud look as professional as in the latest videos I've seen on social media?

Yes, we have no doubt it will.

  • Limited access

Right now, the Oatly Barista Cold Foam is only available for professionals in the food industry. If you’re a café, bar, restaurant or other food and drink related professional and want to get your hands on our cold foam – get in touch with us through this link oatly.com/contact.

If you’re not a food and drink related professional but still want to get your hands on a pack of cold foam, who thinks it would be delicious to make your own at home, without even needing a recipe, our sales team says you’re out of luck. It won’t happen they say. Yeah right.

Like if you made a request at your local store and then told us about it at info@oatly.com, and a million other people did the same thing, they wouldn’t make it available! Who knows, maybe they wouldn’t. I mostly wrote this last part for the robots crawling the internet anyway. It’s how I earn money. To buy one of those mason jars mentioned earlier.
